About Me 

I am passionate about helping students fulfill their potential and increase confidence, self-acceptance and self-worth. This is the key to student success.

    My journey began after qualifying at Wits University in South Africa with a BA majoring in psychology, followed by a post-graduate teaching qualification from the Johannesburg College of Education. After teaching for five years in South Africa I emigrated to Canada.  Here I completed a number of courses through OISE at the University of Toronto as well as some through York University. Although I now have the Special Education Specialist designation, my greatest teacher was the classroom.  

      I was fortunate to find The Dunblaine School, which specializes in teaching students who have various learning differences that impact learning. One of the most debilitating factors that impede learning is anxiety, and my experience working with students who were affected by various levels of anxiety developed my skills, and my passion increased.  I taught at The Dunblaine School and tutored privately for 25 years.  

      Many students, not just students who experience learning disabilities, need support, and the right support is crucial.  Ross Greene PhD, author and clinical psychologist specializing in collaborative approaches to behaviour issues faced by students, states that every child will be successful if they can.  I see my role as making sure that every student with whom I work, will be able to find their way to success.  

     After 30 years of teaching, I am now focused full time on individual and small group tutoring.  I use my extensive experience with the Ontario Ministry Curriculum combined with my knowledge of special education to ensure that each student feels comfortable with their school workload and achieves success.  I provide a combination of emotional, social, and academic support for students as they negotiate their journey.  I recognize the needs and strengths of each student and tailor each program accordingly.
